Justify is the 13th and most recent winner of the Triple Crown in 2018. He retired undefeated, the only Triple Crown winner who never lost a race in his career.

After getting my hands on some really great reference photos of American Pharoah and Justify, I dove right in to creating these large portraits. I never thought I’d have so much fun with black and white! I don’t normally start out my paintings in limited color, but with these, I wanted to take my time to get the tones right and then have a little fun with the color. I fell in love with the black and white underpaintings and decided to make prints at this stage before adding color to the originals. I hope you love them as much as I do!
