Secretariat at the Derby
Secretariat at the Derby
Fine art reproduction print of an original 12x12 inch oil painting on wood panel.
In celebration of Secretariat’s 50th anniversary of winning the Triple Crown, I took the opportunity to paint Big Red in action during each of his big wins in 1973. This expressive representation of Secretariat’s Run for the Roses flew off my brushes (and palette knife) in an attempt to match the energy of the race. I wanted this painting to “feel” more than “document”. This painting is the first in a series of three; See also Secretariat at the Preakness and Secretariat at the Belmont.
