American Pharoah
American Pharoah
Fine art reproduction print of an original 40x40 inch oil underpainting on canvas.
American Pharoah, one of my favorite horses of all time, won the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2015 making him the first horse to win the “Grand Slam” of thoroughbred racing.
After getting my hands on some really great reference photos of American Pharoah and Justify, I dove right in to creating these large portraits. I never thought I’d have so much fun with black and white! I don’t normally start out my paintings in limited color, but with these, I wanted to take my time to get the tones right and then have a little fun with the color. I fell in love with the black and white underpaintings and decided to make prints at this stage before adding color to the originals. I hope you love them as much as I do!
