In celebration of Secretariat’s 50th anniversary of winning the Triple Crown, I painted the GOAT himself. This expressive representation of Secretariat’s Run for the Roses, a.k.a. the Kentucky Derby, flew off my brushes (and palette knife) in an attempt to match the energy of the race. I wanted this painting to “feel” more than “document”. Big Red looks as if he is floating with just his shadow to ground the scene.
